Interview with Hajime Yoshimoto at Wednesday 21st of April 2021 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? HY: Yes. At first, I was willing to be a architect. But my interest changed into designing a commercial space. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? HY: My studio is based in Osaka, Japan. Good design with good vibes for the client or guests will ignite a good business, which I wants to create. Therefore, every projects have different designs. FS: What is "design" for you? HY: Commercial success. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? HY: Imaging. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? HY: A bar named "ROOM" in Onomichi/Hiroshima, Japan, when I was 19 years old. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? HY: Natural materials like wood, gold etc.. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? HY: Lighting and layout. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? HY: Neutral. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? HY: I'm relived by seeing what I expected. FS: What makes a design successful? HY: Commercial success. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? HY: Balance. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? HY: From my imaginations. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? HY: No style but surprises. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? HY: Image the design and layout on my mind, and make at least 3 plans for the client. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? HY: No style but surprise. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? HY: Passion. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? HY: Everything. Each project has different fun.
