Interview with Arman Nur at Monday 30th of April 2018

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
AN: You do not become a designer I think that designers and in general artist are born. Through the education you become a professional and learn how to express your art. Anyway in my opinion it is necessary to be a painter first and only after that a designer.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
AN: In my studio are studying people who are already painters. Leaded by me they become professional designers. Also I do learn in my studio because every time by creating something new I explore more and more

FS: What is "design" for you?
AN: For me design is to reproduce what is given us from the nature, to make things which are already in the nature more comfortable and compact.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
AN: I don’t have favorites. Something I create in that moment I am in love whit this creation no matter if it is a painting a sculpture or a jewel.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
AN: Those designs I haven t done yet those are my favorites because the best one isn’t done yet.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
AN: It would be very difficult to remember because before the studio I have done a lot and during opening the studio and after that also.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
AN: Also here I do not have favorites. All materials are useful to create something great and all technologies are reasonable to get the desired result.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
AN: On that moment when there is born something new in my mind I get the most creative. The process of making it is just work but the imagination before it is the best part.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
AN: Comfortably

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
AN: Satisfaction

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
AN: Before finishing a design, I have already started a new one so there is never the feeling of enjoying the created product.

FS: What makes a design successful?
AN: At first of course the comfort after that the ergonomic part and the end the visual appearance but above all this is the meaning which is very important.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
AN: The Idea, what should it change on the world and what has it to say, the meaning is the first aspect to notice.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
AN: I think, making the life better, changing the point of view and teaching people to be better humans.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
AN: The only thing I can say is that design will never be perfect because the only perfect thing is the nature.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
AN: The last one is the one which is going now and the next one will be exactly after it.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
AN: My design inspiration comes only from the nature and I feed my creativity as considered of course from the nature.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
AN: My design style is studying, studying the nature and the human nature. My achievement is that I was and I am able to create the new based on the heritage of the past, stylize the nature and give it an other life.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
AN: I live in Armenia and of course the regional culture and the heritage of this country the people and the nature strongly affect my designs. I have a lot of artworks especially based on the history of this region. I fell myself as the carrier of this culture and try to evolve it by my artworks.

FS: How do you work with companies?
AN: I am open for cooperation.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
AN: Every company has a point of view and its very one style so the selection of a good designer is very subjective.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
AN: It’s not possible to describe the process because it’s very euphoric so after that you are not able to describe anything and sometimes you don’t remember it even.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
AN: The house itself, the residents who are the most important part of it and about the other three please allow me not to talk.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
AN: All my day is based on work and some chaos free time.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
AN: Always search for Ideas in yourself, never try to find it outside of your soul and never try to be like someone else. Be yourself as an individual human and you will find everything what you carry with you.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
AN: No negatives because I am a positive person and the positive is that you are always creating.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
AN: Be honest.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
AN: Be not afraid of anything to express be brave and take a risk because this is the 90 % of the work.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?

AN: I don’t manage my time I just keep going on and work.
