DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Private Interior

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Penthouse Flat

INSPIRATION:
The inspirations of this project are many and they all aim to restore the dichotomy between a closed and private space on the lower floor and open and public space on the rooftop floor. The grids on the windows on the first floor are an explicit reference to the Arabic derivative mashrabiyya. The upper floor instead opens to the light with large skylights, in which the roof seems to dissolve. The famous Giant's Causeway was an important reference for the design of the extruded elements at different heights allow you to see the historic cathedral.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The penthouse is designed for a couple with two teenagers. The interior spaces are structured on two levels. The first is designed for the family, the latter to accommodate guests. An entrance pod filters the access to the kitchen and to the large living room. A studio and three bedrooms with private bathroom are connected with this space by a 7-meter corridor. A steel staircase connects to the upper area featured by a tv-cinema living, a guest room, a gym, a sauna and a large veranda with a vertical garden.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The design is made for a couple with two teenagers. Keyframes are private spaces, a studio and three bedrooms with separate bathrooms are bespoken designed, and public spaces split into two levels, a prestigious living room on the first level and a living room with home cinema, sauna and gym and the veranda at the upper level. Communal spaces are warm and welcoming with a modern design that makes them comfy and very elegant at the same time. A better performing is granted by the wide veranda, a convivial space with winter garden open to guests and friends in a relaxing atmosphere.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in January 2015 in Monza (Milan area) and finished in July 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Our type of research is based on a selection of mood images, choice of colour palettes, material samples, choice of suppliers. We defined our research objective as a house that could be safe but prestigious, warm and welcoming after several meetings with clients, all family members, to fully understand their needs. Our Methodology is research, mood boards, models and renders shared with clients, approval, application on site. Research tools used are references from books, magazines, internet, suppliers meetings and everything useful to support our ideas.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge was to meet client needs. Proposing a new lifestyle with a less conventional approach to furniture and design. It took time and trust to convince clients to change their initial expectations into something more contemporary and sophisticated. Key was designing every single detail thinking of how it would be used or lived. The result made the clients very satisfied in a new lifestyle, exceeding their expectations.

The award-winning design, Private Interior, is an exemplary work of art that showcases BFA Barbara Fassoni Architects' skillful design prowess. From the entrance pod that filters the access to the kitchen and living room, to the steel staircase that leads to the upper level, the penthouse is a beautiful design masterpiece. The details, like the grids on the windows that reference the Arabic derivative mashrabiyya, and the large skylights that make the roof seem to dissolve, are awe-inspiring. The use of materials like smoked glass, iron dust metal, white oak flooring, and cement resin, is masterfully realized and demonstrates the architects' research and attention to detail. This award-winning design is truly a remarkable example of design excellence that will be hard to surpass.

I am absolutely in awe of the amazing work done by the designer on the Private Interior project. The use of a two-level design structure to create a family and guest space is genius. The details such as the grids on the windows on the first floor, the large skylights on the upper floor, and the extruded elements at different heights to create a connection to the historic cathedral, all work together to produce a unique and beautiful design. The designer is to be commended for their research and attention to detail in order to meet the needs of the clients and exceed their expectations. Congratulations on winning the A' Design Award for this amazing work!

I am truly in awe of this remarkable work! It is a beautiful blend of the private and public, of traditional and contemporary. The intricate mashrabiyya grids on the windows of the first floor is a stunning tribute to the Arabic derivative, while the upper floor opens up to the light with the large skylights. The roof appears to almost dissolve, a truly remarkable effect. The extruded elements at different heights, inspired by the Giant's Causeway, is simply breathtaking, allowing one to appreciate the historic cathedral in an entirely new light. Congratulations to BFA Barbara Fassoni Architects for their well-deserved A' Design Award!
