INSPIRATION:
In 2012, there was an international conference took place in Metu. In the preparation process, I mention the accessibility of the faculty and the campus. After being aware of this deficiency, as a university, we decided to solve this problem. This is the story of Rehber which helps me to improve my idea. While searching for a solution to accessibility, we found the products that are available for accessibility are expensive and they require structural alterations.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The barrier-free access system, Rehber simply works as an elevated ramp. Users push just one button to activate it and waits a little bit to reach the final height. It is a contemporary solution for both unimpeded and disabled people which enables access opportunities, It is safe, easy to use and low cost. Rehber can be adjustable desired height. The whole system has a mobile structure and can be moved wherever if necessary. It's a universal design, strifeless, for everyone in the universe.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
After installation, by using a button on Rehber, the system is activated. Working principle is simple so that everyone in the world can use it. Also, it is an unimpeded product to allow everyone to use it simply. Rehber is a bar none project for people also disabled people can use it by themselves without any help. Rehber does not require any structural alterations to the main structure. Since it has few components, the possibility of breakdown and risk is low. Moreover, Rehber allows you to use both hydraulic, mechanic, pneumatic and linear activators.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in 2012 in Ankara in Turkey as a university research and development project(Middle East Technical University). Outcomes of the project allow us to design such a product, Rehber.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The project started with types of solutions that are used already in the market. The need for the users and essential features are also searched. The purpose is to end up a product which is low-cost, suitable for mass production, modular, safe and adaptable. While designing Rehber, the main intention is to design a product with low cost, mass producible, easy to use, easy to built-in. The most important is to serve people both disabled and unimpeded perfectly. Since it is a university project, the idea is to end up with a unique product between its competitors. This project, Rehber, is a Metu Teknokent research and development project.

CHALLENGE:
Access system that enables the disabled using a wheelchair to access elevations with boarding levels higher than ground level, which they cannot reach without external help. The slope of the ramps should not exceed 4 percent in any direction to let people use their wheelchairs by themselves securely and functionally. To achieve this percentage ramps are too long for small areas. The challenge here was designing a product which has low cost and diminished from the possible problem.
