DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Transmutation

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Jumpsuit

INSPIRATION:
We are inspired in everything that is collapsing, a chemical reaction that keeps everything moving, an experiment. An experiment adding opposite ideas, collapsing towards each other. Polarities will emerge treating equality of the meanings and ambiguous interpretations, the exact moment exchange of meanings. Contrast is needed to create a distinguishable reality, without we would experience nothingness. We depend on our opposite to prove existence. But we grow and develop in the same source: Nature.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The perspective involved in the development of the jumpsuits provides the Man's understanding of his own body, we use visual methods that provide a new understanding of the body and of himself breaking paradigms opening for opportunity to experiment.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The jumpsuit was made with the purpose of adjusting to several types of masculine bodies. The long hidden zipper makes it effortless to dress on and off, and the adjustable waistband makes it sit close to the body almost appearing as a shirt tucked inside pants, but with the enhanced free movement of a onesie.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in March of 2016 in and ended in March of 2017 in Berlin. It was exhibited as the SS18 Collection at Pitti Immagine Uomo in June 2017.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
In details, we develop a jumpsuit that is adjustable in different types of male bodies in an organic cotton fabric. It was manually illustrated in paper rolls with more than 2 meters of diameter, so the dimension of the drawing would never be repeated. Those illustrations were inspired in old toys, nature, surrealism and psychology.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
200 mm x 100 mm x 300 mm

TAGS:
jumpsuit, illustration, art, onesie, menswear, unisex

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
My research was based on the topic about boys growing up to become Men and how difficult the development is filled with false judgements and abstraction to everything that is exposed differently. Even as the heroic role is exemplified in the global cultural and its influences in the development of young boys. To understand this world, I used methods such as: researching what the real reasons for this problem are and how we could change it. One of the ways that I decided to use was the use of child objects in my illustrations as boats and nature in my drawings, because they would be symbols of childhood moments and even good moments that many have already seen enjoying themselves and feel influenced to see such images. Everything was developed in a way that would make this Man try this outfit on his body, something new that was being available for the first time in front of him, a jumpsuit, a single piece that covered his whole body, giving a new experience. Men aged 18 to 45 were exposed to the jumpsuits and many Men's simply did not find the usability compatible. But what made me very happy that some people had different emotions about clothing: The first moment: Not liking, not accepting. Second moment: Starting to understand the concept. Third moment: Experiencing and seeing yourself using something similar. This results really made me think about how much I wanted to change de Menswear world, bringing them freedom of thought and appreciation of new things.

CHALLENGE:
The greatest difficulty in developing this Collection was the creation of the illustrations, because our project was to create the illustration in a way that people would identify with it in a very personal way, analysing and relocating those thoughts into their own life experiences. It was important that the clothes would not be seen as by their design but rather by telling a story explained and exemplified by the drawings.
