DESIGN NAME: French tailored eclecticism
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential interior
INSPIRATION: The designer was inspired by old boutique hotels in the historical centre of Paris, works of Russian female poets of the early 20th century, such as Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva, as well as modern materials and lighting.
The project is a representation of a new, emerging stream in Russian interior design - the return of interest of Russians to the history-inspired, yet non-classical interiors.
The apartment is located in the elite residential building, designed by Philippe Starck, which defined the passion of both the designer and the client to create a unique interior, with it's own character and style.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Unique adaptation and integration of traditional french styles and colors into the modern, comfortable interior. Different patterns and styles are carefully blended together to create an unforgettable interior. A lot of red colour in the interior was the requirement of the client, however, another requirement was to make the interior cozy and comfortable for all the family members for many years. The apartment is quite big, and one of the major challenges was to make all interiors of different rooms match and work together to form a stylish and unforgettable atmosphere.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The apartment is designed to fit the needs of a big family and be easily adjustable to accommodate a large number of guests. The layout of the apartment was changed in order to provide private space for all family members (parents and 3 daughters of different age) and establish common areas, where all the family can spent time together

The major outcome was the focus on the floor cover, moldings, very careful and well thought through use of colors.
CHALLENGE: The key creative challenge was to blend together old and new textures, as well as materials, styles and artwork. It was especially challenging to recreate the spirit of old interiors with a long family history, interiors, created by many generations of a family in a completely new residential building. In the same time, it was possible to use only brand new and modern textures and materials since the client was completely against using vintage accessories and materials.
