DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Baroneza

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residence

INSPIRATION:
The house was set so as to enjoy the gardens around it, providing an experience of integration with nature, stimulating a modern and bold lifestyle of complete spatial integration. The architectural language was applied in such a way as to dramatize the effects of light, in a spatial game of volumes and forms.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Overlapping volumes of varying heights and glass walls were combined to improve the feeling of transparency and open space, in a minimalist style. The dramatism of the blinded main facade was emphasized by a natural stone wall giving privacy to the glass living. The height and transparency of the living spaces and its wide glass panels brought the feeling of being inside the garden, making the living room a big covered terrace.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The philosophy of the essential applied to architecture brought greater value to the spaces. The integrated ambients promoted intense interaction and coexistence between individuals. Those were the keys for the success of this project.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The conception and technical drawings of this project took five months and its constrution around one year.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The definition of finishing materials was meticulously estudied, working with plain white walls, natural brazilian stones Black Slate and Pedra do Mato and wood decks. The absence of doorspots at pivot doors and glass walls promotes wide ambiences, emphasizing the open house design. The Living Room space works as a big covered terrace, with a stone fireplace centered in glass panels.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Located in a residencial condominium near Sao Paulo City, Brazil, this 1.200 square meters weekend house project, was developed creating distinct blocks, acomodated in three diferent function levels as living, services and sleeping, surrounded by gardens and intercommunicated by a confortable two level stair.

TAGS:
Modern, Minimalism, Spatial Integration, Open Spaces, Transparency

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
We researched solutions so that the roof respected the aesthetic standards of the project, and ended up implanting a covering of Alwitra roofing menbrane, with thermal insulation, on OSB wood panels supported by metal structure. Still, the main structure of the social blocks was calculated to enable the large openings and heights, with minimal interference of pillars and to receive the large self-supporting aluminum and glass frames specially designed and manufactured for this house.

CHALLENGE:
The height and transparency of the living and dining space and the large sliding doors presented the greatest technical challenge, structurally and technically very elaborated and the projects greatest extravagance.

CLIENT/STUDIO/BRAND DETAILS
NAME:
Simone Mantovani

PROFILE:
Simone Mantovani has been working, since she got majored in architecture and urbanism, as partner and creative director at the family business Construtora Mantovani, where she developed many enterprising projects as single residences, apartments, business offices, condominiums and high standard buildings. At the same time produced several interior design projects and furniture design. In 2001, she started up her own new firm, Simone Mantovani Arquitetura, with a whole new profile; aiming the integration of her background experiences on commercial, residencial and institucional architecture with interior design. All her projects are developed on the basis of research into materials and on elaborate construction, always taking into consideration the environments in which they are to come to life. There is no pre-determined script for the architectual incursions which, in general, starts with the overall layout and might terminate, for example, in designing a very special lamp. The client's briefing and the analysis of how he interacts with his environment is the starting point, that will ally experience to the art of spaces creation.
