| DESIGN NAME: Marais PRIMARY FUNCTION: Piano cake packaging INSPIRATION: The inspiration for this design, the piano, is an instrument that creates beautiful harmonies from the combination of each individual key's sound. You could say that society is a lot like this as well. We know that you will be giving this gift to someone important to you, and you want to give them something that was made with care. We've made each and every one of our gift boxes with our customers needs in mind. With each key of this gift box, your feelings are sure to be heard. All Japanese pianos are made here in Shizuoka Prefecture. In Japan, as well, the piano is considered to be a special symbol of elegance and splendor. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Gift packaging for cakes (financier). The picture shows the 15-cake size box (Two octaves). Usually, gift boxes simply line up all the cakes neatly. However, our boxes of individually wrapped cakes are different. We cut costs by focusing on only one design, and in making use of all six surfaces, we were able to recreate every type of keyboard. Using this design, we can create any keyboard size, from small keyboards, to full 88-key grand pianos, and even larger. For example, for one octave of 13 keys, we use 8 cakes. And an 88-key grand piano would be a gift box of 52 cakes. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Since the announcement of the design and release of the product, it has been introduced in over 18 media outlets, including newspapers, magazines, and websites, in 5 countries. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We have been able to successfully make the packaging look more like a keyboard by making the height of the outer box approx. 10mm lower than the height of the individual packages. Also, making the side of the individual packages square has made it possible to rotate them and express all the different keyboard patterns. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 310mm x Depth 110mm x Height 90mm TAGS: Packaging, Cake, Financier, Piano, Gift set RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Usually, on the inside of gift packaging, various items are lined up in a plain, orderly fashion. CHALLENGE: Usually, on the inside of gift packaging, various items are lined up in a plain, orderly fashion. What I have tried to do is add some sort of significance to something that is just arranged in a line. Also, I wanted to package them carefully, one by one, so that they could be used as gifts imbued with a feeling of care. The piano motif satisfies the conditions for such occasions. I also discovered that, if you use all six sides of the box well, you can represent an entire keyboard with just one kind of box.
