DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Treasure Island

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residencial

INSPIRATION:
It is about the determination to break the very traditional, ordinary house layout in Hong Kong. The original plan is a rectangular living and dining area and a rectangular bedroom, the layout is the boring and limited layout. The client wants space can be more interested. We are not going to live the way that "arrange" by the developer, we should live in our own style.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The client being an avid lover of music, movie and books that have crossed the count of over six thousand. The core idea of the residence is to convey a feeling of warmth, make the space inviting and give a sense of comfort to the people living and the guest. The project grabs our attention towards the importance of orderliness and how to beautify the space with a blend of style and hobbies.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Before blacksmith start works on site, the marking of all new walls, furniture, including the height of each related structure must be done. After the blacksmith start works double check and test all the size before they install on to the related location.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in September 2014 in Park Island, Hong Kong and finished in December 2014. It was a residential interior design and build contract.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
All iron work, like welding, bending and painting are all work on-site to prevent error.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
420 square feet

TAGS:
Interior, apartment, house, CD rack, industrial, layout, movable cabinet, slide cabinet, cabinet

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The original living and dining area is a very typical rectangular shape, the end is a window and the wall at the left and right side. It is not enough space to store over 6000pcs CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and the vinyls plus books. I need more wall space to store such numbers of collections. So I decided to demolish the wall between the living area and the bedroom to enlarge the living area and also build two angled walls to make more space to store the collections.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge of this project is the marking process. Just a few degree difference will affect the space of both living area, bedroom and closet area, and most important is, the slide cabinet can never perpendicular to the TV wall and make the enclosed bedroom anymore. So because of the precision needs, factory finish metal structure cannot be use, all the iron structure must be done on site by two blacksmiths. And do the weight and roller test on site as well to make sure the cabinet and the slide cabinet is durable enough.
