| DESIGN NAME: Crew PRIMARY FUNCTION: Powder Mix Paint INSPIRATION: House paint has never been a fashionable or a trendy market and that needs to be changed. The fact that the paint market is an unsaturated market for trendy and aesthetically pleasing products, made me want to create something new and different. Research is the crucial part. Knowing what consumers need and what they may be attracted to is what the designer has to be mindful of. The rest are the set boundaries that has to be followed in order to have a functional package. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This concept project intends to be innovative in the paint market. "Crew" is biodegradable powder-mix paint company that produces a wide rage of interior and exterior paint. The paint itself contains zero-VOC and the packaging itself is 100% recyclable, unlike other brands in the market. The packaging is meant to both protect the product and help it stack better on the shelfs. A kit is provided for those who not only need paint for their project, but, also who don't have the right tools needed. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The outer frame is there to protect the product. The second layer, where the color is being indicated, shows measurements on the inside for the consumer to know how much powder will add up to how much ready-to-use paint when mixed with water. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Perfect density of paint is achieved when each paint pack has been mixed with one gallon of water. TAGS: Bio-degradable, zero VOC, Recyclable, Fresh, Powder Mixed, Latex, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: A great challenge with this project was the fact that it's paint and there hasn't been a lot of innovation in terms of packaging. Creating an attractive and at the same time, recyclable package was another challenging aspect of this project. NAME: Crew PROFILE: Crew is a hypothetical (student project) interior and exterior powder mix paint company based in Bay Area, CA who joined the sustainability movement in 2008. Crew produces latex paint that contained zero-VOC. The two founders of Crew decided to give the paint industry a new look and have the consumers to think sustainable not only with what they eat and drink but even with what type of paint they use for their houses. |
