DESIGN NAME: Haart Spectre
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Agricultural Tractor
INSPIRATION: My biggest motivation was to find a possible future appearance of agricultural tractors. I wanted to design a machine with ecological powertrain and new shaping. I took inspiration in minimalist design and purposefully shaped sports car. Another inspiration for me was learning about flow battery technology.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Haart Spectre represents vision of a heavy agricultural tractor of the near future. It excels due to gentle and environmentally friendly operation. The usage of a full-electric drive enabled more compact shape of the machine. The design is characterized by optical intersection of the technical part with the body and space for driver. Exactly defined lines push the tractor forward and help to cultivate huge amount of matter. The shape reflects brutal power of the tractor.
Important technological innovation is the usage of flow battery system. This system is producing electricity from chemical reaction directly in the tractor. Another interesting improvement is integration of front ballast (primary configuration of 6 blocks each weighing 400 kg) between front wheels. This solution helps the design to differ from tractors in current production.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Haart Spectre represents evolution in the design of heavy agricultural tractors. It excels due to a gentle and environmentally friendly operation. The inovative approach can be seen in comfort for driver, reduction of maintenance requirements and simplification of powertrain. Spectre has its unique design and looks very strong.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project had started in December 2014 and finished in May 2015 in Brno. It was created as a master's thesis in the field Industrial design at the Brno University of Technology.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design uses many of modern technology, but tractor may be produced with today available manufacturing technologies.
The tractor uses a frame chassis and a pair of steerable axles. The chassis and the whole supporting structure is made of steel. The body can be made of fiberglass, composite, or metal plates. Electric motors with the required parameters (power, torque, etc.) are already available on the market.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Haart Spectre is a heavy agricultural tractor with dimensions of 2500-3000 mm x 4900 mm x 3500 mm (width x depth x height) and weighing about 10 tons.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The creative process began with an analysis of the current state of the topic at developmental (historical), technical and design aspect. On this background arose the concept of the technical solution of the tractor using full electric propulsion. Next step was the creation of three alternative proposals implemented using sketches and working models. The final design was a further development of these alternatives. All the ideas were consulted with a designer from Zetor Tractors and actual users of the tractors during the creative process. These discussions were an incentive for improvements and introducing new elements to the design of the tractor.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to create a distinctive cognitive element characterizing this tractor. An interesting challenge was to optimize powertrain with a flow battery and redesign ballasting system.
