DESIGN NAME:
The Creation

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Light Installation

INSPIRATION:
The inspiration for The Creation emerges from the structural logic of the cosmos and the parallel capacity of human creativity to construct meaning from complexity. In a galaxy, countless luminous bodies exist within an invisible gravitational order. Similarly, human imagination organizes fragments of perception into coherent systems of thought, culture, and expression. Rather than reproducing celestial imagery, the project investigates how density, distance, and light distribution can translate cosmic principles into architectural space. Through advanced digital simulation, 20335 transparent and translucent acrylic spheres were positioned at precisely calculated three dimensional coordinates, forming a volumetric constellation shaped by both mathematical structure and artistic intention. Illuminated multidirectionally by twelve synchronized projectors, the spheres operate as a unified light matrix in constant transformation. Clusters emerge, disperse, and recombine, reflecting the dynamic tension between chaos and order, multiplicity and unity. In doing so, the installation frames light not only as a representation of the universe, but as a metaphor for human creative force capable of shaping shared perception and collective meaning.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Conceived for an international stage, The Creation presents a spatial system where natural phenomena, artificial structure, and advanced technology converge into a unified experiential framework. Rather than juxtaposing nature and the artificial, the project integrates them through a mathematically structured constellation of 20335 acrylic spheres, each positioned at precisely calculated three dimensional coordinates. The spheres vary in scale and optical properties, forming a calibrated volumetric field supported by a concealed structural framework. Twelve multidirectional projectors generate dynamic clusters of light that activate the suspended matrix, transforming it into a continuously evolving luminous environment. Through synchronized projection and spatial computation, light operates not as surface imagery but as a spatial force shaping depth, density, and perceptual gravity. Digital simulations were extensively employed to validate spatial alignment, structural feasibility, and safety compliance while preserving aesthetic coherence. The result is an immersive installation that synthesizes artistic vision, engineering precision, and environmental abstraction, establishing a new model for large scale volumetric light architecture capable of communicating across cultural boundaries without reliance on language.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Creation operates as a volumetric light field composed of over 20000 clear and translucent spheres suspended in close spatial proximity. Each element is positioned within a calculated three dimensional formation, establishing a cohesive yet porous luminous structure. Illumination from multiple directions activates the matrix, generating gradients of intensity, chromatic shifts, and kinetic visual flow. Rather than producing discrete beams or surface projections, the system creates a continuous spatial modulation in which light appears to shimmer, ripple, and reorganize across the suspended constellation. The experience unfolds as a temporal composition. Subtle variations in density and luminosity guide perception through waves of expansion and convergence, evoking natural phenomena without direct representation. This approach differentiates the work from conventional LED or laser displays by replacing linear spectacle with immersive atmospheric continuity, resulting in a living texture of light that engages viewers on an intuitive and emotional level.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was completed in May 2023 in Suzhou China.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The structural system of The Creation is based on a precisely calculated three dimensional coordinate framework in which 20335 transparent and translucent acrylic spheres of varying diameters are individually positioned. Each sphere is fixed within a concealed support structure engineered to maintain geometric accuracy while minimizing visual interference, allowing the volumetric constellation to appear suspended in space. Illumination is generated through twelve synchronized projection units arranged multidirectionally around the installation. Through advanced projection mapping and calibrated optical alignment, light is distributed across the spherical matrix to produce shifting clusters, gradients of density, and dynamic luminous formations. Rather than functioning as surface imagery, projection acts as a volumetric modulation system that activates the spatial field. Extensive digital simulation and parametric modeling were employed to determine coordinate precision, light dispersion behavior, structural load balance, and safety compliance. This integration of computational design, optical engineering, and structural optimization enabled the realization of a stable yet perceptually fluid light architecture at architectural scale.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Exhibition space dimensions: Width 15000 mm x Depth 15000 mm x Height 7700 mm. Within this architectural volume, 20335 acrylic spheres are suspended in a precisely calculated three dimensional grid, forming a high density volumetric constellation. The suspended matrix is activated by 12 synchronized projection units arranged to provide multidirectional light distribution and uniform spatial coverage. The system is engineered for geometric accuracy, structural balance, and optical consistency at large scale. All measurements and technical specifications adhere to the metric ISO system, ensuring precision, reproducibility, and feasibility for evaluation, transportation, and potential reinstallation in diverse architectural environments.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This research investigated how spatially distributed light and three dimensional form can generate measurable emotional and perceptual responses without reliance on language. The objective was to establish a universal experiential model in which light functions as a structural medium rather than decorative illumination. The methodology combined digital simulation, parametric spatial modeling, and iterative full scale prototyping. Experimental installations were conducted with participants representing diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds. Variables including spatial density, luminosity gradients, chromatic transition, and temporal sequencing were systematically adjusted to evaluate perceptual coherence and emotional resonance. Qualitative observation and structured feedback analysis informed successive refinements of the installation. The findings indicate that immersive volumetric light environments can foster shared emotional engagement, stimulate collective wonder, and strengthen human connection within public space contexts. The research further demonstrates the potential of light based spatial systems to expand creative methodologies across architecture, art, and experiential design industries.

CHALLENGE:
The principal challenge was to orchestrate a fluid visual sequence while suspending more than 20000 spheres within a three dimensional coordinate system without physical interference or collision. Maintaining precise spatial alignment across such density required advanced geometric calculation, structural calibration, and tolerance management. Simultaneously, the projected imagery had to correspond accurately with the volumetric matrix, demanding exact synchronization between spatial coordinates and projection mapping parameters. Even minor deviations in alignment or optical calibration could compromise perceptual continuity. Achieving seamless flow therefore required iterative simulation, full scale testing, and continuous refinement of both structural and projection systems. Balancing artistic intent with engineering constraints, safety regulations, load distribution, and projection complexity transformed the development process into a multidisciplinary design problem. Through systematic experimentation and recalibration, technical limitations were converted into design parameters, enabling a stable yet dynamically expressive light architecture.
