DESIGN NAME: Vision Auction
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Online Jewelry Bidding
INSPIRATION: The moment an auctioneer's gavel falls is charged with anticipation and exhilaration, capturing the essence of live auctions. From previewing to bidding, the emotional crescendo fuels engagement, a dynamic now reimagined for the digital realm. Vision Auction harnesses MR technology to heighten these interactions, seamlessly integrating them into online bidding to enhance participation and instill confidence.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As online jewelry auctions grow, trust and interactivity remain key concerns. Vision Auction leverages Mixed Reality for virtual try-ons and live bidding, seamlessly blending digital and physical participation. By integrating digital twin lots, it enhances credibility and value retention, fostering a transparent, efficient, and personalized auction experience that redefines digital jewelry trade.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Users enter the Vision Auction app via Apple Vision Pro to browse upcoming auctions and preview digital twin lots in AR. Eye-tracking and gesture controls enable detailed inspection and virtual try-ons before bidding. During live VR auctions, users engage with the atmosphere and place bids in real time. Afterward, certified digital twin jewelry can be displayed or securely resold within the system, ensuring trust and continuity in secondary transactions.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project commenced in June 2024 in Qingdao, Shandong, China, where its initiation, design, development, and testing phases were carried out. It concluded in January 2025.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Interface design was developed using Figma and Adobe Photoshop, with usability testing conducted through the Google Cardboard simulator. Compliance with Apple Vision Pro design guidelines ensured appropriate button sizing and spacing, enhancing gesture recognition and eye-tracking for a more seamless online auction experience.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Button dimensions are defined as 16mm x 16mm, with a minimum spacing of 16mm and a maximum height of 48mm. Text sizing follows a structured hierarchy, with a default font size of 16 pixels, auxiliary text at 12 pixels, and subtitles and titles reaching up to 48 pixels. The SF Pro font from Apple Vision Pro is used, with varying weights to enhance visual hierarchy and facilitate quick identification of key elements.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through internet ethnography and in-depth interviews with high-end jewelry auction participants, I identified key user pain points and framed the research goal: How might we enhance user confidence and browsing experiences in online auctions? Utilizing personas, journey maps, empathy maps, and decision matrices, I developed initial concepts and information architecture. Multiple interface iterations were refined through low- and mid-fidelity prototypes. In the evaluation phase, I employed SUS scoring and VR testing to assess usability and optimize the design.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was balancing functionality and simplicity in an online auction platform. Initial brainstorming, informed by user research, generated numerous feature ideas, but excessive complexity made the interface overwhelming. Iterative feasibility testing, validation, and careful consideration of information hierarchy helped distill the design to its most essential and impactful features while maintaining a clean, intuitive interface.
