INSPIRATION: The third and final book from the series of children's stories ‘Fairy tales for Danka’ by Andrei Sannikov titled ‘The New Adventures of Little Mouse Piki and His Friends’ (Tiny Paws Adventures). RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project involved socio-political research on Belarus's history over 30 years. The goal was to create allegorical, accessible illustrations. Methods included archival study, interviews, and public testimonials. Historians and illustrators collaborated to ensure accuracy. Results showed humour and storytelling enhanced engagement, raising awareness of political history and fostering cultural reflection through design. The project highlights design's role in education and societal impact.
CHALLENGE: This project faced significant challenges, including strict censorship laws in Belarus, where criticism of the regime risks prosecution. The book was developed in Canada and published in Poland to bypass these restrictions. Historical and social contexts demanded sensitive storytelling, while limited access to resources and information posed hurdles. Despite external constraints, the project overcame obstacles through international collaboration, balancing creative freedom with cultural significance.
