DESIGN NAME: Knot
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vase
INSPIRATION: The vase's form follows a traditional eastern aesthetic, with a classic vessel type shape. However, the modern pattern that adorns its surface infuses it with a contemporary flair. Without the pattern, the vase would maintain its traditional feel, but the intricate inner and outer details add a modern touch. The pattern itself adds a pleasing rhythm to its overall design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Knot Vase is an example of modern artistry meeting functional design. The minimalist shape of the vase is elevated by intricate tube forms that add texture and depth to the piece. The geometric arrangement of the tubes creates a visually sculptural form that can be appreciated as both a functional vase and a standalone art object. The continuous tube pattern conforms to the vase's shape, tapering at the neck and expanding at the base, contributing to a more substantial feel.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The hypnotizing outer patter of the vase is complemented by an intricate inner pattern that exhibits a divergent flow as it gradually veers towards the bottom of the vessel. This detail infuses the vase with additional fluidity and movement, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.
The vase can also take in a big bouquet of flowers that also add to it's sculptural form.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The knot vase project started late 2021 and a copy was made and sold by 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The patterns were designed as 2D graphics, flat on the computer and later projected onto the simplified vase shape by the use of a 3D program.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: This unique approach to the outer pattern design on the Knot vase is that the tube pattern is seamless and uninterrupted, preventing the eye from detecting any repetitive or symmetrical patterns. This creates a dynamic effect that adds depth and dimension to the overall design.
