| DESIGN NAME: Ombre Aplomb PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential INSPIRATION: Duality is a profound philosophy of mind, which can be referred to the relation between interior and exterior, mental and physical, substance and spiritual matters. Borrowing Chinese philosophical undertones and mingling with contemporary art forms, while this residential project implies dualistic thoughts forged with aesthetic forms, to build up a livable, and well-functioned habitation is also considered. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Imbued with oriental dualism and western expressions, this 160-square-meter residential apartment comprises a spacious open living space, 2 bedrooms ensuite, and 2 functional rooms. A distinct dual-color contrast can be seen in every orientation throughout the space, artfully creating both rational and emotional appeals. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Whereas the private spaces, subdivided by a metallic doorway, are paved in deeper backdrops, taking the advantage of sufficient day-lighting, the shared areas are air-filled with clean and elegant arrangement. The antique mirror paneling behind the hearth, paired with white marbles, spares more rooms for audio devices, and enhances spacious visuality. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Shades and brightness are complementary and interrelated to each other. Complying with the natural appearance of bianco carrara and nero marquina marbles, the black-and-white color scheme is massively found between matte wall tiling and gray mirror paneling on the elevation. The flooring mixes wood parquet and polished marbles, delineating the dining section from the open shared space. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Contruction area 160 square meter. TAGS: Marbles, antique mirrors, grey mirrors, titaninum panelling…etc. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To assure the plan is durable and pragmatic for daily usages, except materiality and color formation, functional utility and agile movement are also included in the overall design. CHALLENGE: According to the client's request, in order to accommodate Eastern culinary methods, and not to interfere with overall decorations, the kitchen is individually segmented in a room. Relocating the gas pipeline in long distance therefore became an arduous task.
