PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ehabilitation Assistive Appliance

INSPIRATION:
The design originates from the graduation project. I conducted user research on the elderly and handicapped people and did market research on hand rehabilitation aids. Taking into account the exclusion of rehabilitation aids by the elderly, I hope that the appearance of the product will be de-labeled, and the design of the buttons will be gamified, breaking the stereotype of rehabilitation aids. The training methods of hamsters and screws are commonly used in modern rehabilitation medicine.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This is a smart hand rehabilitation aid that can satisfy different groups with hand disorders, especially the elderly. It contains three modules: a gopher module, a screw module, and a maze module. It combines applications to enable users to complete rehabilitation tasks in the game. In addition to improving the range of motion of the finger joints, it improves the coordination and flexibility of the hands and also enhances the cognitive ability of the elderly.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
When the user uses the whac-a-mole module, buttons of different colors and shapes will be displayed on the screen, and the user will tap the buttons according to the prompts on the screen. The resulting score is calculated based on how long it took to display, and the number of correct and incorrect completions. The speed and difficulty of the game can be set. The screw module requires the user to unscrew the screws within a specified time. The size of the screws from large to small means that the difficulty is greater. The way to use the maze module is that the user holds the mobile module and walks along the yellow "maze road". This requires the user's hand to have a certain stability and pinch force. More kinds of maze schemes can be generated by splicing modules. This can exercise both the user's hands and their cognitive abilities

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project began in Wuhan in October 2018, was completed in Wuhan in April 2019, and was unveiled as a graduation design in June 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
It has a special magnetic interface to ensure that when the modules fit together, they will not be easily separated. A modular accessory system driven by metal contacts that allow the body to magnetically attach parts, like the Moto Z. The button will glow when users use the Whac-a-mole module, which can be realized by active infrared intrusion detectors or pressure sensing.The outer shell of this product is made of ABS. Part of the keys are made of silicon. The soft material enables users to have a sense of intimacy in touch.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Many people with hand disabilities, especially the elderly, are prone to injury and have degenerative changes. They cannot complete many delicate and complex movements, which affects their health and self-esteem. In the context of an aging population, the role of hand rehabilitation aids becomes increasingly important. This product can help users to complete rehabilitation exercises in a happy game, restore or maintain hand function, and thus actively participate in social life, to obtain rehabilitation and happiness.
