Interview with Nak Boong Kim at Friday 15th of March 2013 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NK: Everyone expects tables to be flat-topped. I wanted to challenge this preconception. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NK: The ideal size of a table depends on how many people are using it at that particular time. When it is not being used, ideally you want to be able to fold it away so that it does not take up so much space. I wanted to design something that is versatile enough for a variety of uses that can also be folded away when not needed. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NK: I currently work in a small woodwork studio; small numbers can be made in that setting. I would consider leasing the production rights if a larger company with the capacity for a bigger production is interested.
