Pithy Pure Residence

Pithy Pure Residence

Pithy Pure Residence is an exemplary Japanese-inspired residential interior design project completed in January 2020 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern functionality. The design, conceived by Yan Ru Chen, demonstrates a sophisticated approach to contemporary living spaces while honoring Japanese Shinto spiritual elements. The residence features an open-plan layout that seamlessly connects the dining room, living room, and study area, enhanced by carefully selected natural materials including wood veneer, lacquered glass, and wooden flooring. Notable design elements include a meticulously planned storage system at the entrance, combining shoe cabinet ventilation, display platforms, and door cabinet storage, all executed with precise attention to spatial efficiency. The project addresses multiple design challenges, including the integration of large-capacity storage solutions, child-safe environments, and sacred spaces for religious practices, while maintaining aesthetic coherence. Environmental consciousness is evident in the selection of non-toxic materials and sustainable design practices throughout the space. The interior's sophisticated lighting design creates dynamic shadow play that evolves throughout the day, while the strategic use of warm wooden materials and elegant color palettes establishes a serene atmosphere characteristic of Japanese design principles. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, successfully overcomes structural challenges such as horizontal beams in public areas through innovative ceiling modifications and material applications, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving in residential interior design.
