Othon Friesz, a French artist, was born in Le Havre in 1879 and attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the Académie Julian. He is considered to be one of the founders of the early Fauvism, a radical art movement of the early 20th century. Friesz embraced a range of painting styles from Impressionism through to Cubism and Expressionism. He worked in several mediums including oil, watercolour and pastel. A few of his important works include ‘The Large Red Tree’ (1906), ‘The Trees of Dawn’ (1910), ‘The Suburb’ (1911), and ‘The White Beach’ (1911). He died in 1949.
