Cristian Mungiu

Cristian Mungiu is a renowned Romanian filmmaker, best known for his Palme d'Or-winning film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days in 2007, as well as the Cannes Film Festival award-winning Beyond the Hills in 2012. He is renowned for his exploration of the impact of communism on Romania's social and moral fabric, tackling issues such as abortion and religious faith. His other notable feature films include Occident (2002), The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005), Graduation (2016), and his latest film, 2020's Tales from the Golden Age. Mungiu has also written, directed and produced a number of short films, such as Stuff and Dough (2001), The Tube with a Hat (2003), and Ariadne (2007). In addition, he has been a professor at the University of Bucharest's National School of Political Studies and Public Administration, and has lectured extensively on Romanian and European cinema.
