The Pocket Space Playbook is a social design toolkit for high density public housing. It transforms underutilized corridors and stairwells into functional social nodes. The design consists of a portable manual and an assembly system using 100 percent recycled materials like bamboo and wood pallets. By utilizing low barrier connections such as cable ties, residents can construct modular units in 30 minutes without tools. This project promotes spatial autonomy and fosters neighborly bonds in communities facing redevelopment. It provides a scalable solution for urban social resilience.

Estate Of Mine
Estate of Mine is a social design collective from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University student. The team observes that public housing design has become cold and robotic, focusing more on physical buildings than the people who live in them. This creates a de humanized environment where neighbors are cut off from each other and the sense of community disappears. Current designs often prioritize management and efficiency over the real human connections that make a place feel like a home. In this difficult situation, Estate of Mine acts as a bridge between official planning and the actual lives of residents. The designers believe it is important to bring empathy back into the design process by moving past distant observation and focusing on deep human engagement. This approach ensures the voices of grassroots communities are truly heard and respected throughout the development of local neighborhoods. The process starts with Discovery and Ethnographic Research, where the designers talk one on one with residents to find the hidden needs that big projects usually ignore. Next, the team leads Co Design and Human Interaction sessions using workshops to let residents help create the solutions themselves. Estate of Mine then uses Iterative Prototyping to build quick models that people can see and touch, followed by On Site Pilot Testing to see how these ideas work in the real world. Estate of Mine wants to change the status quo by turning design into a living social system that keeps Hong Kong communities strong and connected.
