| DESIGN NAME: 55 Residence PRIMARY FUNCTION: Corridor Library INSPIRATION: The client desired to have a reading corner at their new home for relaxing. But, their apartment has no extra rooms to set an individual reading space. Fortunately, there is a large window along the corridor with beautiful daylight. It looks like public libraries, that usually have comfortable lights and shadows to make people peace and calm. Therefore, a row of bookcases along the corridor are designed, simple structure and easy to manufacture. That turned a normal aisle into a different space with a new function. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A row of bookcases along the corridor are designed, with a simple structure and material, that turned a normal aisle a new appearance with a different function. The main material of bookcase is birch plywood. Under repeated block alignment with natural wood color, the corridor is visually magnified and looks peaceful. That also provide lots of room for book storage with a special effect of display. The sloping panels of upper bookcase extend to the ceiling, each unit cooperates with the spotlight that deepens the space. Lights and shadows enriched this small but warm place. The family library in the corridor did make this apartment unique. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Due to lack of space in an apartment. This project turned an aisle into a library with wooden bookcase units. Under simple material and easy assembly keyframe, the design provides lots of room for book storage with a special effect of display. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Designed in 2017. Finished in February 2018. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Simple material and assembly: Use affordable and firmly material, 18mm birch plywood. Lock the vertical plate and the horizontal plate with screws from the outside. Screws could be hidden when two units are lined up. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Corridor: Length 600 cm x Width 130 cm x Height 330 cm. Apartment: 140 squre meters. TAGS: corridor, bookcase, library RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There is a large window along the corridor with beautiful daylight. It looks like public libraries, that usually have comfortable lights and shadows to make people peace and calm. In this project, light and shadow are well calculated both in day and night time. It's cozy during warm and soft daylights, then turned into a black-and-white-film CHALLENGE: This apartment has no extra rooms to set an individual space for large bookcases. A row of wood units along the corridor are designed, simple structure and easy to assembly. That turned a normal aisle into a library.
