| DESIGN NAME: Serenity Collection PRIMARY FUNCTION: Children Clothing INSPIRATION: Colors in nature usually calm people's mind and reduce stress level. The common colors in most of the inspirational images gathered were blue, grey, white, and beige. These colors are scientifically proven to help the brain relax and bring calmness to mental state. In Korea, when babies cry mothers wrap their child with piece of long fabric and tie them in a bow. Surprisingly, many cases, babies calm down and stop crying. This bow wrapping was inspired by the Korean traditional dress. The sense of wrapping and interlocking gives children security and brings serenity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Modern day Children are constantly surrounded by stress. Stress is known to effect children's growth in health and mental state. This serenity collection can relieve some of the stress level for the children and their parents by using colors, fabrics and garment details that give security. Not only it is comfortable to people, it is also comfortable to the environment as once the clothing is disposed, the natural fabric decompose rapidly compared to other chemical fabrics. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There are many interlocking elements in this collection. - If there is a drawstring, pull the string to create gathers and tie it with a bow or a knot - if there is a interlocking hole, insert the fabric through the hole and it will create a bow. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Linen and cotton are natural fabric that is used in beddings and home furnishings because it is extremely comfortable to the skin. Therefore, this collection only uses these two fabrics that are dyed by low impact procedure. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Blouse: 340mm Cotton blouse with bow detail on the cuffs and peter pan collar. Romper Dress:650mm This romper dress is closed by fabric interlocking through a tunnel rather than a snap that is most commonly used. The length of the fabric is different for more playful garment detail. Blue Dress: 640mm Drawstring usually alter clothing's fit. Therefore, this dress has faux drawstring tunnel and gathers on the sides. This resulted to have the perfect A line fit yet mimics the drawstring aesthetic. Uneven Top: 340mm This shirt has a uneven hemline on the front and a half gathered detail at the back. This top also has a faux drawstring element. Pant: 390mm Linen Pant with tacked cuffs for easy movement for children. Drawstring on waist for easy clothing procedure for kids. Bow Top: 320mm Has a tunnel in the middle where a perfectly patterned fabric can go through to make a puffy modern looking bow. Skirt: 300mm Linen skirt with two grosgrain detail on hem. Drawstring on waist for easy clothing procedure for children. Romper:500mm This romper is closed by fabric interlocking through a tunnel rather than a snap that is most commonly used. T-shirt:320mm cotton jersey with ruffles on the sides TAGS: Serenity, Stress Relieve, Calm, Childrenswear, Interlocking, Ribbon RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During the two years of absence from school, taking pictures of nature helped reducing stress level. The common colors in most of the photographs were blue, grey, white, and beige. These colors are scientifically proven to help the brain relax and bring calmness to mental state. Many draping attempts were used to translate the traditional bow in to modern and unique bow detail. Multiple pattern-drafting sessions were conducted to create perfect fit, accurate and delicate bow details. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part of this project was to translate the interlocking element from traditional modern dress to a modern day clothing. Effort to translate the bow details more modernized rather than making it so obvious that it was inspired from the traditional dress was extremely challenging. It took multiples of draping session and many pattern-making process to create the most unique garment detail. The arrangement of serene color palettes and smooth fabrication includes linens and cottons exuding feelings of comfort comparative to soft home- bedding.
