| DESIGN NAME: Eve Glider PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coffee Table INSPIRATION: The motive for the new design search was the inconvenience of using coffee tables of classical forms. The Eve Glider was inspired by the soaring romance of the aircraft wings, the fascinating smoothness of the stingray shape and the unswerving and straightforward stability of boat keels. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The unique fusion of the winged tabletop, the central tail-like ledge and the dynamically shaped legs of the coffee table creates a solid functional and aesthetical form. It gives an easy access for sitting or lifting. Can be used as a footrest. Any object on the ledge of the tabletop is easily reached by the seated person without leaning forward. Minimalistic design of the coffee table is refined with glossy lacquer and aviation aluminum. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Due to the light weight and the table legs positioning the Eve Glider can be easily placed close to the sitting place to provide a full access to the whole tabletop, especially its ledge. In some cases, for convenience, it can be rotated 180 degrees. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2018 in Veliky Novgorod and finished in February 2019 in Saint-Petersburg. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: plywood, colored primer, wood glue, glossy lacquer, aviation aluminum SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1000mm x Depth 600mm x Height 510mm, Weight 5kg TAGS: eveglider, coffee table, contemporary, furniture, kairossdesign RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Studying various samples of untransformable coffee tables on the Internet, I discovered that most of them had only one practical function, they were used as stands for tableware. You needed to bend over to take something or put. They were not comfortable for sitting or lifting. Side tables, for example, solved the problem of reach, but they were inconvenient to use a laptop, had a small working area and could not be used for footrest. The universal solution has become the Eve Glider. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to invent a coffee table anew. It should have been multifunctional, comfortable, minimalistic, lightweight, contemporary, exquisite, inspiring. All these diverse requirements had to be embodied into one new unique and solid form.
