| DESIGN NAME: Mature Man’s Private Space PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: This residential spatial planning design project transformed the double open balconies into space for small gatherings, while the indoor space is the living area for a mature man’s work and entertainment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The building itself is of symmetric long and narrow space, hence axial symmetric arrangement is adopted, with the right half of the axis being the public area, while the left half is the private space, with the landscape-style corridor as the intermediary zone to maintain spatial privacy. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Modern space is about selecting light and transparent materials. Large French window introduces abundant light and colors to the interior space, when light sprinkles down onto the specially treated coating, texture with darkness and brightness, as well as the lightness and transparency of the materials endow the space with sophistication and layer. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The foyer uses grey colored natural stone as the frame, with a painting of unique texture as the decoration to highlight the cultural sentiment and sophistication. Upon entrance, open-style area is applied to plan the living room, dining room and the work area, as well as to set up a wine cellar device which is rarely seen in common residences, making it the highlight that must be passed by in the public space, and the design image was inspired by the view window and the cabin skeleton of ships from the historical Age of Discovery as the core concept to develop the wine cellar style. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The space is 340 square meters TAGS: Interior Design, Residential ,House,Space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The living room is arranged with arc sofa to provide quality space for communication, while the grey color tone is applied to structure the peaceful spatial atmosphere. The ceiling adopted ship skeleton supporting method to construct a space with radian and girder to resemble the waves of the ocean. The small workspace at the back is set up with a display and storage shelf, exhibiting the big boy’s toys and collections via illuminated boards without lights and shadows. This display shelf also separates the dining space behind it. The couchette in the back can be used for sitting or for lying, thereby forming a relaxing rest area. Other than the dining room, a modern light food area is further set up by the French window to demonstrate the flexible spatial usage. CHALLENGE: In pursuance of maximum storage volume, display-type red wines are placed separately on the view window side closer to the aisle, while the rest are being collected on the wood columns horizontal to the ground. The circular wine-viewing window structured using metals, rivets and heat-insulating glass creates the scenario of the desire to see the world through the small window during the Age of Discovery. There is a meaning underneath every word of “Mi-Ke-Si-Bei.” “Mi (rice)” is the staple food of Asia. Rice provides essential energy in every day living. Farmers grow rice diligently according to solar terms. As a result, the word “mi” represents the meaning of diligence in design. The word “Ke” signifies overcoming and breaking through. Innovative and considerate design comes with solid scientific background research methodology that needs to overcome many obstacles. The word “Si” is a pictograph which combines a person’s mind and heart. The mind represents rationality whereas the heart symbolizes sensibility. The combination of the mind and the heart means our design corporates rationality and sensibility. The word “Bei” means to increase. To increase the meaning of design and to deepen the user experience run deep in our design. When putting the four characters together and pronouncing them, the pronunciation of the four characters sounds like “mix space” in English which means space combination." |
