| DESIGN NAME: Old House Renovation PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: The owner of the project is a 93-year-old painter. We hope to improve the living environment of the elderly and give new life to the old house through the idea of symbiotic thinking. Starting from the sense of whiteness of the works of the Southern Song Dynasty painters, life, nature, and architecture have become the contents of a painting. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a residential renovation project, the building itself is old and broken, and it is troubled by rain all the year round. No ventilation, no lighting, and the chaos of house space creates a waste of space. The original trees and walls are preserved, and they can be seen from the study room to be symbiotic with the outside world and become a landscape painting. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The wall was repaired and the drainage system was dredged, so that the rainwater and the springs did not affect people and buildings and could be rationally utilized, eventually reaching a state of balance and independence. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We always adhere to people, architecture can coexist with nature, modern and traditional symbiosis, local and international coexistence. A series of simple materials such as washed stone and rice paper coatings have been used to create a Jiangnan landscape with white walls and gray tiles. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The indoor area is 30 square meters and the yard area is 70 square meters. It was originally an independent two houses. The two houses were connected by a suspended glass box, which satisfied the versatility of the space (door hall, living room, bathroom, study, etc.). And made a 60 centimeters retreat, removed the wall that was originally connected to the mountain, and solved the problems of lighting, ventilation and humidity. CHALLENGE: First, we need to face the broken building and deal with the surrounding water system. The second challenge is how to meet the use of various functions in the indoor space, such as no sewage system, heat insulation, ventilation, and whether the life of the occupants is convenient.
