| DESIGN NAME: TiX - AllRoad Mobile PRIMARY FUNCTION: iPhone Case INSPIRATION: We wanted to design a case which would preserve the perfection of the iPhone design, while making it more mobile, much stronger, and ready for the unpredictable. To reach that goal, we decided to ask Fabien Deboves, designer of Devialet Phantom to work on our project and to inject some materials innovation and out of the box thinking into the TiX design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: At AllRoad we believe that when it comes to protecting your iPhone, you should not have to choose between efficiency and style. TiX is an evolving, customizable and stylish case for iPhone made of Titanium and Kevlar. With TiX on, your iPhone still looks good but is now totally safe, more mobile, and ready for the outdoors. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: * Customization You can swap sliders at anytime to customize your case according to your mood. Pick gold for the ultimate urban feel, swap them for wood at the weekend, and swap them again for carbon for the next session with your MTB buddies * Extend your playground : Once you take your sliders off, you can use the railing system of the case to mount a GoPro mount and a power bank. You can then use your iPhone as a stopwatch on your runs, as a tracker on your rides or even as an action-cam. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Q417 with the creation of the company in Marseilles, France. The latest prototypes were shown at CES 2019, honored with an innovation award. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - Titanium - Kevlar - Blushock SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - 42g - 0.8mm thickness - Shockproof 2m - Wireless Charging Compatible - Outdoor ecosystem TAGS: Titanium, Kevlar, iPhonecase, BluShock RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our goal was to design a product which would work both indoors and outdoors. We therefore conducted 2 surveys amongst our targets: one aimed at iPhone users evolving mainly in an indoor environment and another one amongst high-end athletes mainly evolving in an outdoor environment (MTB, Surf, Ski, Kiteboard, Wingsuit). Crossing the results allowed us to identify Titanium as the material which was noble and pure enough to meet the indoor target and robust and light enough for the outdoor one. CHALLENGE: The main challenge for this project was to end up with a design which would bring excellent results in terms of protection, without altering the perfection of the iPhone design. After researching what made the original design of the iPhone exceptional, we decided to keep the reflection type as close as possible to the original device. Using both noble and technical materials was part of our receipe too :Titianium for being pure, strong, light and its anti-corrosion properties. Kevlar for acting as a shield on the back cover and a brand new shock absorption material that we called BluShock. The end-result: with TiX, your iPhone still looks beautiful but is now totally safe and outdoor-ready.
