| DESIGN NAME: A3 Advanced Architecture PRIMARY FUNCTION: Apartments INSPIRATION: Two starting points - the mountain and the city, set the overall architectural concept. A3 (Advanced Architecture Apartments) is designed to be relevant, contextual and avant-garde. Some of the most modern and interesting buildings in Sofia are exactly here. On the other hand, a very dominant element of the environment is the mountain, peeking in the building. The combination of these two powerful components results in a dynamic and modern shape of the building, without harming the function. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The creation of A3 flows from the inside to the outside, the design strictly follows the function. There are straight orthogonal forms in the layout, which bring comfort and flexibility in the interior space organization. It is divided into five volumes, linked in a common ensemble that defines its final shape. Each of the volumes is outlined with soft and elegant forms which let everyone associate them with their own imagination, stimulating one to become author of a new form, to be inspired. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Aesthetics, functionality and longevity are the three components which define the architecture of A3. Despite ensuring a lasting grace, the glass, concrete and steel used in the facade provide a long life and easy maintenance. The execution of works was achieved at the highest level, thus ensuring the durability and easy maintenance of the building. The glass most certainly forms an impressive accent point, creating a dramatic feeling of sophistication and light. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Dividing of the building into 5 separate volumes and the smoothening, curving of the edges is an intended effect, with which the overall volume of the building is reduced, as well as its aggressive impact on the environment. The perfect softened geometry is achieved by using the innovative material fibreC by Rieder for the first time in the country. This natural glass fibre reinforced concrete is uniquely precast in the manufacturer's factory. The whole envelope of the building consists of these panels, making the lines flawless, the facade looking lively, ensuring its longevity and sustainability. Floors: 17 Apartments: 158 Shops: 13 Parking spaces: 218 TAGS: Architecture, A3, Residential, Smooth, Soft, fibreC, Innovation, Curve, Building RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In addition to the stunning landscape that surrounds, A3 is located in a modern and fast growing area of Sofia that offers a combination of dynamic urban living and a quiet residential atmosphere with substantial greenery. The combination of the two powerful context components results in a dynamic and modern shape of the building, without harming the function. It is divided into five volumes, linked in a common ensemble that defines its final shape. Each of the volumes is outlined with soft and elegant forms which let everyone associate them with their own imagination. CHALLENGE: The specific site of the building - in the part of the city where the mountain meets the modern area, was determining for the final design of A3. Despite the ample surrounding space, we decided to divide the building into 5 separate volumes so that one has a perception of a several buildings ensemble, while each of them serves as a separate residential block. In addition, we softened all of the edges in order to reduce the aggressive impact and outline the separate volumes. The function and requirement of orthogonal and airy spaces were never harmed by the facade design.
