PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Radio Device

INSPIRATION:
Managing storage is a tedious work. Traditional RFID scanner is inefficient and cumbersome in storage management, and the scanning data is easily to lose and will not automatically be saved before out of battery. We expect storage management to be as simple as possible without the need for a large amount of manpower to deal with. Meanwhile, this new design no longer looks heavy and stupid. It should be a compact and light device, easy to use with good anti-fall and wear-resisting functions.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The new RFID design can quickly scan the objects without repeated scanning, a maximum of 200 pieces in a long distance and storing 55,000 at one time. Even when it is out of battery, the scanned information can be saved automatically. It is very small and light, easy to hold and convenient to use. It can be connected with mobile phones through Bluetooth, in order to efficiently transfer the scanned information.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The new RFID is equipped with UHF modules, which are designed for integrated management, such as book management, clothing inventory, jewelry management, file management, etc., which can not only read electronic tag information quickly and remotely, but also efficiently scan and identify one-dimensional code, QR code, etc. It can wirelessly transfer the reading results to a computer, mobile phone, ipad and other devices via USB or Bluetooth, and easily complete the inventory of the library, clothing store, jewelry store, archives, and check.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Shenzhen in August 2017 and completed in March 2018. It was exhibited in GOOD Design EXHIBITION 2018 in October 2018 and in Guangzhou Design Week in November 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The main housing is injection molding with as-mold of high-glossy edge and soft texture. Double injection molding is warp around the front-end of main-unit for protecting. Logo is anodized finish to bring out the product quality.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
1.This is a design for warehouse keeper, for they are working in the warehouse all day long and use scan tools for goods management. 2.We invited warehouse keepers to join the design workshop to explore how they are working in the warehouse and study user scenario and scan tools that they use before. We found so many issues to be explored and improved. 3.We map (design mapping) all the scan tools and make block models for user testing. And we also send it to the marketing team to call up a consumer insight testing for better understanding and exploring design opportunities. We think the feedback and input are very positive to the design team, especially the human factor issue about how to balance the weight of scan tools for warehouse keeper to hold for all day long.

CHALLENGE:
During the development process, we repeatedly tested each parameter of each sensor module to ensure that the device can run quickly, smoothly and stably. We also take into account the size and weight of the module, and try to reserve more possibilities for the design of the appearance. At present, the similar products on the market are mostly gun-type. Our product is different from them. In terms of design, we spent more than two months discussing the sketches, trying to define the product with other more humanized shapes. And finally we draw inspiration from the fly swatter.
