| DESIGN NAME: The New Moment PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cafeteria INSPIRATION: The old abandoned building shows high potential of conversion to bright and pleasant space as a cafeteria. By introducing new color and material texture, the building has been transformed to be specious corporate cafeteria. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is the conversion project of the old abandoned building for over 20 years into corporate cafeteria. The space is incorporating vivid blue color to create a brand new image of space for more comfortable dining experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project started with the detailed site survey since the building had been abandoned for over twenty years. After checking the building condition, the original condition drawing was created. After all the design iterations, the design was proposed to the client. With the agreement of client, the project moved to construction phase, and opened to public on September of 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: CNC milling for the VIP room ceiling and hand carpentry for most of the space. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 500 square meter interior space TAGS: MisoSoupDesign, Daisuke Nagatomo, Minnie Jan, Cafeteria ,Interior Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The focus of design research for "The New Moment" is to investigate the new possibility of an old structure to be utilized in completely new function. In this case, it is from dormitory to corporate cafeteria. Since there are many over 30 years structures in Taiwan, it was great case to exam the possibility of this type of conversion. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project was to deal with old structure in case by case. Since the building was not maintained too well, there are many condition that had to fix. So that the project operation was more likely design build. Often it required to be onsite to check all the condition to proceed the project.
