| DESIGN NAME: Peodour PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sitting INSPIRATION: The concept of Peodour is inspired from Sitting on the Floor. In ancient China, people sit on the floor mat with various prototypes of surroundings like furniture, buildings etc. Until the Western Jin Dynasty, the appearance of minority furniture, called ‘Hu Chuang’ (for sitting), changed people’s lifestyle from sitting on the floor to seating higher, with higher vantage point onto surroundings. Peodour is inspirited by the culture, which set up in public space, to call on people to sit much lower and rethink the relationship with their surroundings currently. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Peodour are ceramic cushions for sitting. Each one has a concave shape of butt on its surface to invite people to have a seat. It sets up an interactive community project in public area or garden to share with others. One of the shape of Peodour could be matched with stairs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Peodour is set up in public space, which people could sit on. There are two shapes, the one is on the floor, the other one is matched on the stair. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Peodour, a set of ceramic works. They are made by hands using different molds and reduction fired by gas kiln, 1320°C. The color of the glaze is clear and special. Choosing ceramic to make the object , because there are ceramic stools and tables in the garden, in China. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Smaller is bout 350mm x 350mm x 100mm Bigger is bout 500mm x 180mm x 430mm TAGS: design, function, space, craft, handmade RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The bigger one must be made by hand pressing with molds, and there are structures inside.
