| DESIGN NAME: Stones PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sofa INSPIRATION: The sofa was inspired by the different natural dispositions of stones and their possibilities as objects made for sitting, to open up the experience of sitting in the most comfortable way for its users. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project uses the irregular format of stones as a base to create opportunities for seating in day-to-day life and to achieve a malleability in its assembly and usage, such as sitting, lying and relaxing. It is composed of three cushions that aim to offer a new solution for young environments faced with the dynamism that comes from the routine. It stimulates strangers to interact, once they are seated closely in common areas with a tendency for relaxation. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It has different depths that will please a diverse amount of people, providing a plethora of possible forms of use, from the sitting position to the most unpretentious lying, combining its auspicious form with its comfortable backrest. Its disposition, as an island, makes it able to attend to big areas and lounges, both residential and corporative, with a high level of circulation. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The production of the structure uses a wooden mold in the format of the OSB pieces; the structure was made in Lypitus wood in the areas with the most strenuous efforts with Italian straps, CBP foam with 28 density and synthetic silicon fiber. Seams with reinforcement in leather were used in the cloth around the stem. Its main feature is the cloth, made manually with a loom from threads of high strength polyester silk and warp in cotton threads. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2290 X 1190 X 730 1620 x 1520 x 730 1600 x 1430 x 730 TAGS: sofa, cushions, stones, carpet RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research phase was focused on finding, through the organic form of the stones, possibilities for its daily usage. The application of the cloth in the product from its reinforcement to the cutting of the pieces for sewing, makes it possible for it to resist the effects of sitting. CHALLENGE: Our challenge was the application of the cloth on the product, since it was idealized to be embraced by a cloth, made manually by a carpet factory, a material that is not that conventional for such a piece of furniture. There is no pre formed style or concept, the idea is to let the creative process flow, being organic and compatible with the feelings of the moment. The strands of style and esthetics such as Modern Brasilianism, Minimalism, Scadinavian, Brutalism, amongst others, are part of the cocktail of information that feeds the creative mind of Pontoeu, that views design as essential to quality of life and well being. Our objective is to ally form, function, materials and industrial processes amongst other factors, in single products which will attend expectations and become objects of desire.This is enchanting work involving creation, research and development and our thermometre for acceptance, is the product in the hands of its final consumer. The design must attend functions, make life easier, feed the soul and calm the heart, be a joyful sight, instigate reflection and propose new ideas. Pontoeu products will always be differentiated by their contemporaneity, the correct use of available materials and, in contradiction, for the search for unusual materials and elements; products that can be versatile in their use and disposition, making customization by the client possible, in colours and finishing. |
