| DESIGN NAME: ZigZag PRIMARY FUNCTION: File Cabinet INSPIRATION: The zig zag file cabinet has been designed with inspiration from the versatile forms used for different purposes. The cabinet has a moving appearance due to its structure. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design features a zig zag shaped file cabinet that can be used in front of the wall or as a divider in the middle of large scale spaces. The cabinet has a unique design line and its file storage capacity is very high. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design intent was to create a wooden file cabinet that could be placed in front of the wall, like a panoramic picture that characterized the environment with its zig zag structure. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The melamine coated particleboard material, which is possible to be reused and whose wastes are almost completely recyclable, was preferred in the production of the file cabinet. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The file cabinet with five compartments is 205 cm (w) x 47 cm (d) x 188 cm (h). The pieces of the zigzag file cabinet for total of 161 each cabinet boxes with a maximum weight of 60 kg each can be placed and transported in a 20 cubic foot container. TAGS: File Cabinet, Bookshelf, Bookcase, Shelf RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After deciding on the zig zag form of the file cabinet, the existing office file cabinets were examined. Afterwards, the cabinet was finalized by analyzing the importance, usage order, frequency of use and storage principles. Then, packaging, transportation and assembly properties were determined. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge of design is that it creates a symmetrical layout in a zig zag file cabinet. At the same time, another challenge was to achieve a balance between the simplicity of the file cabinet, functionality and that it looked contemporary and of high quality. NAME: ZigZag file cabinet PROFILE: Kemal Yıldırım, the designer of the zigzag file cabinet, is presently employed as a Professor at the Gazi University in Ankara. He won the “Unions of Exporters Grand Prize” with the design called AngledBOX in the Office Furniture Professional Category at the “Eighth National Furniture Design Competition” on 10 April 2015. Furthermore, he won “Second Prize” with the design called Life Bed at the “Furniture Design Competition for Saving Lives in an Earthquake” on 11 June 2015. In addition, he won 6 each “A Design Awards” with the designs titled AngledSHELF, V-Bookcase, MyBATH, HexBOX, FileBOX and SLant at the 2016-2018 A Design Awards, included among the most prestigious design competitions of the world organized in Italy. On April 28, 2018, he received the Bronze Design Award from the European Product Design Awards for his Pivotbox design. |
