| DESIGN NAME: Fire & Earth PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewellery Collection INSPIRATION: The Fire and Earth collection is inspired by natural and organic shapes the designer observes during her walks in the Scottish woodlands. The name Fire and Earth indicates how metal, honed from the earth, is worked and transformed by fire into an elegant piece of jewellery, revealing the special essence within. Nothing is more symbolic than jewellery. Jewellery can express many things such as love, power, spirituality and memories. Similarly it can make the person wearing it feel special, bringing out their own beauty. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is interesting to observe how the same object can inspire different people in different ways. During the creative process every artist brings out part of their story, experience and culture and imprints it into their work. In realising this project, UK-based Italian artisan Roberta Pederzoli creates a collection where Italian culture and Scottish landscape are intertwined. Every piece is carefully crafted with consideration for texture and colour, creating a sensation of fairy-tale elegance and enchantment by delicately brushing colour over the jewellery. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This collection can be worn for every occasion. The earrings and necklace are a perfect complement for a contemporary, but at the same time, classic and sophisticated bride. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in 2016 and lasted over 1 year. It was realised in Scotland. The Fire & Earth Collection has received a Certificate of Excellence by the 2018 Arts & Crafts Design Award. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This collection is made of Sterling silver and gold-plated Sterling silver. The main decorative element has been realised thanks to the ancient technique of lost-wax casting, and colour has delicately been brushed to recreate a sensation of fairy-tale elegance. Every piece is handmade. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Necklace 130 x 225 mm Earrings 8 x 61mm Ring 48 x 13mm; band 2mm TAGS: jewelry, silver, inspired by nature, enchantment, bridal jewelry, jewellery, necklace, cascade necklace, ring , earrings RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project has been inspired by organic and natural forms observed in Scottish woodlands. Nature is an incredible and wonderful source of creativity and inspiration. True beauty is revealed through Nature’s irregularity and imperfection. By realising this collection great thought has been given with regard to both texture and colour. Rough areas are emphasised, colour is sometimes applied in different nuances and the oxidation process is left to take place. The jewellery springs to life, showing its vulnerability, mutation and beauty. CHALLENGE: The Earth and Fire necklace was initially open at the front, however, it was not sitting properly on the neck. A handmade connection was fabricated at the front to overcome this problem. Product tests were carried out by asking different people to wear, and assess, the necklace. All reported it sat well and was extremely comfortable.
