| DESIGN NAME: Sona Cruise PRIMARY FUNCTION: Personal massager INSPIRATION: Lelo's main inspiration to create Sona was to combat age-old and incorrect assumptions about the clitoris, one of the most unique and misunderstood organs in the human body. A better understanding of female pleasure is crucially important. It lays the foundation for personal empowerment on an individual basis, which in turn can contribute to profound improvements in gender inequality. Our sonic massager Sona isn’t just a sex toy, it’s a symbol of a cultural change and a social upheaval. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The sonic massager that stimulates 75 percent more of the clitoris. It features Cruise Control which reserves 20 percent of Sona Cruise’s full power during normal use to unleash that extra power once the motor begins to drop it, to make sure the intensity is on the same level all the time. It’s completely automatic, and it eliminates the single most common complaint against pleasure products OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sona is the only pleasure product that stimulates the entire clitoris, instead of just the external part. Sona is gentler on the clitoris than a conventional pleasure product because it transmits waves through the air, rather than through direct contact with the body. This means the user can enjoy it for longer, multiple times, without needing to take a break. In the end, we used the subwoofer pad of a speaker as inspiration. It is like standing in front of a large loudspeaker and feeling the bass resonate deeply throughout the body. That’s the sensation we wanted to create and focus into the erogenous zones. By using sonic waves instead of vibrations, the resonations are transmitted much more deeply into the body – perhaps on the same principle as something like an ultrasound, or sonar – hence the name, Sona. CHALLENGE: Sona does away with conventional vibrating motors in favor of world-first sonic technology. Thanks to a sonic ‘pad’ in the ‘mouth’ of Sona, it creates sonic pulses that reverberate into the clitoris and are transmitted throughout its entire body.
