| DESIGN NAME: Gaia Collection PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry INSPIRATION: Gaia Collection is inspired by Greek Mythology, Gaia is the mother goddess of Olympus, of all Greek gods and goddess, portrayed as mother earth. When I read this myth, I felt deeply touched, I felt the strength and balance aspect, as well as the chaos aspect from Gaia’s story. This urged me to design this collection. I chose gemstones as my main material, gemstone, a treasure holding the energy of a little universe. I want to show how to raise our inner strength and reconnect with Mother Earth. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Gaia Collection is a set of Jewelry inspired from the goddess Gaia from Greek Mythology. Gaia, as the primary goddess, also been portrayed as Mother Earth. By designing this collection, I used lots of gemstone and round and square elements, referring back to the aesthetic of Pythagorean as well as showing how powerful mother Earth is able to create. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Gaia collection including two line, one line is a High-end Art Nouveau style Necklace, it is more likely to be an exhibition piece. Another line is more towards day to day basis, universal and elegant. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2018 in Michigan and finished in May 2018 in Michigan. It will be exhibiting at Fe Gallery's Art Nouveau in California in August 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Silver plated 14k rose gold with gemstone SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Main Piece: 40mm*53mm*2mm (Different Piece have vary dimension) TAGS: Gaia, Earth, Goddess, Art Nouveau, Mythology RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for this project includes researching mythology, psychology, aesthetic books. Also by researching on inspirations and collecting storyboard give the design more lifely features. CHALLENGE: Inspired by Greek Mythology Character, Gaia, the earth mother and also the aesthetic theory of Pythagorean, only two opposite force neutralizing each other can create the beauty. In this collection, I used a lot of different symbols such as round and square to create the contract. NAME: Kiley Chaw Jewelry PROFILE: The present is like bubble in a crowd, it’s exciting, it’s wondrous, it’s fleeting. The bubbles are brilliant but suddenly they gone. Time is a dream you will never quite see through. Design is a present where pasts mix into potential futures. I extracted rings and bracelets from the shapes of history. I dive deep into artifacts from my time, into different cultures, and into different religions, exploring whole worlds in each. It is generally thought that the making of jewelry is a process that a person engages in, but I find something quite the opposite. Designing jewelry fabricates me. When I am sketching, or making models, carving wax or setting stones, I am made more powerful. I grow, I learn, and the evidence is the made jewel. Each piece assembles a story using elements of the past, fabricated into a present, writing a new future. A noble bauble instead of an ephemeral bubble ———something cherished, something treasured. |
