DESIGN NAME: Spice Chakra Indian Recipe Pack
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging to display spice ingredients
INSPIRATION: India's culture is one of the oldest & richest in the world, to reflect this, I created a range of packs that borrowed from the diverse and varied colours of the different regions of India. Rich oranges for the Regal Collection of recipe packs, cool blues for the Hill Station Collection and fresh greens for the Chakra Thali Collection. The Chakra wheel symbolises the whole well-being of the body which is fed by good authentic food.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The brief: To design packaging that would allow consumers to view the spices in the pack, see the final recipe & show the shopping list with the additional items to make the recipes. The inside of pack contained step by step instructions to create the meal. The packs were printed onto card & sealed with a matt lamination. Spot gloss varnish was used to highlighted the logo, recipe image, Chakra wheel & shopping list, to give a tactile feel to the packaging & greater shelf appeal.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a folded card pack with spices and ingredients held together by a black matt metal rivet. When the pack is opened the directions were printed on the inside of the foldout card.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project started in January 2017 and finished in April 2017

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The packs were printed onto card & sealed with a matt lamination. Clever use of spot gloss varnish highlighted the logo, recipe image, Chakra wheel & the shopping list, to give a tactile feel to the packaging & a greater stand-off on shelf. Colour was key to this range. Symbiotic tones were used to differentiate the 3 regional collections: rich oranges, calming blues & fresh greens, colours inspired by the culture of India.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Mood boards of the regions and colours of India were used to choose colours that were sympathetic to the region where the recipes came from. The client had travelled extensively in India and shared their insides and images from their travels which helped to inspire the designs
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this project was to portray the authentic nature of these recipe packs - these recipes were traditional meals of India and it was important to get across to consumers that they were buying a little bit of the 'real' Indian culture.
