DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Isle of Islay

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential House

INSPIRATION:
Inspired by the words from Murakami Haruki, we want to build a space with the unique atmosphere of Isle of Islay. Though Isle of Islay has piercingly cold, awful weather, as the home of Ireland whiskey, it found the connection between millions of people. The space is cold with insufficient lighting, which reminds us of this Island. That is why the designer name it Isle of Islay. The smoky feeling makes this space dim and indigo. Just as Whiskey do, connecting the strong love between this newly married couple.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The space is full of expression, interactive and human-oriented. The semi-open place which sliding door is adjustable strengthens the space. The sloping chink on television wall makes the light slide inside the living room and fix the problem of lack of light in this space. The designer put the sofa in the middle of the living room, which makes people in the center of the room. We fuse the sofa and the space together, people can walk around the living room without restricted by the sofa. The material of this artistic work shows the exquisite thought of the designer. The door for the study room is made from stainless steel, which symbolizes the freezing cold weather of Isle of Islay. The wood makes the connection to the peat from Isle. Dark laminate represent the mottled feeling. The concrete wall is the architecture on the island. Once you open the front door, you will see the marble wall. The texture of the marble wall symbolizes the stream. When it comes to the night, the warm candle light shines on the wood. It will make you feel like you are hiding in a secret place in the winter. Warm, comfortable and peaceful.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Isle of Islay, the home of Ireland whiskey, born in awful weather and left alone, has been dragged into 39 square feet space. The space is just as the role of Whiskey, making each other closer. If their language is a glass of whisky, we are the architect of Isle of Islay. Brewing the rich fragrance in the glass, and last the phenomenal sonnet for long.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in August 2017 in Hsinchu, Taiwan and finished in December 2017.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
1) To make the place penetrable, interactive and cultural. 2) To solve the problem of insufficient light. The designer configurates the space and makes more light inside. Also makes an original storytelling concept for the place and give the owner a unique life style. 3) We found nature light could show the expression of the space, so we brought the light to the space by designing and construction method. We decided to give it a story through setting a tone for the space. 4) In addition to external condition, the designing theory inside make the place enchanting. We dedicated ourselves to cultural part and made the space profound.

CHALLENGE:
We found that it is hard to let the light go inside the space. Although the space is dim even we make more artificial lighting, nature light is still indispensable. To solve the problem, we make the light inside by spatial design which are bevel television wall and sliding door of the study room. The design makes the place bright but still let people who live inside have their own privacy.
