| DESIGN NAME: Fountainia PRIMARY FUNCTION: Divide wine into two wine glasses INSPIRATION: My first inspiration of this project is the morning dew dripping from the flower pedals, after that, I was inspired by the mechanics of fountain design so to make the liquid flows equally. Because I don’t want this design to be purely functional, but also have a performance aspect. The body of the wine divider is a wine glass placed upside down which is intended to make a reference to its function. Also, the shape of it creates the gap for the wine glasses to be placed closer. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a wine divider, when pouring wine from the top of the wine divider, the wine flows equally into two wine glasses. People engage in shared consumption, especially with food and drink, because they share a social time with others to feel related to each other. However, the communication and interaction during the event is often limited. By creating this object, Ruiqi intended to explore the dynamic experience of drinking through interactions. The main function of this object is to reduce the pouring frequency, it can be convenient especially when drinking with a group of people. Such as parties and dinner meetings. Fountainia is like drawing an equation between two random people, to bring karma and playfulness to the dinner. Also, when using this wine divider between two people, it becomes an invisible tie between them, the action of pouring and sharing creates an intimate experience, meanwhile becomes a silent performance. This piece of work focuses on designing experience, when the context changes, the conversation of this piece of work will also transform. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: All you need to do is pouring the wine from the middle of the top. Then the wine will flow to two sides naturally. The interation is explained in the project description section. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2017 in London and finished in March 2018 in London. |

As for the technical aspect, my research focuses on experimenting and discovering techniques about glass, hot blowing process, glass casting and lampwork. CHALLENGE: The hardest thing in this project is to materialize my idea and experimenting with different shapes.
