| DESIGN NAME: Happiness PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table Lamp INSPIRATION: As a design studio, in addition to serve its clients they want to spread their traditional culture. So they decide to choose housewares and furniture to express it. Happiness is one of this project. They hope it is not only satisfied with lighting function, but can be a very interesting thing as a symbol of lucky and happiness. Even if people live in modern society, they still retain this spirit in their life. They want to present this cultural spirit in the product design and bring it to more people. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Its name as its appearance comes from Chinese culture: magpie stands on a plum tree branch meaning happiness is coming. It is designed to bring not only light but also happiness and best wishes. And the bulb can be taken from the branch, it can be hold as a night light from desk to bed even to other space. Besides the lovely appearance and soft touch of the bulb will make it popular. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Happiness is a modular interactive night light that can be a home decoration placed on the desk. Magpie-based design of the lamp bulb can be separated from the stand, which has a separate battery so it can still work being removed from the lamp, and use a soft silicone material to increase product and human interaction. And the bracket part is made of two parts, so it can save space in the package box. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2017 in Nanjing and finished in September 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main part of the bulb is made of silicone mold. Contact charging with magnet is adopted. The switch is at the bottom of the bulb. The voltage is 5V-1A, the battery capacity is 50mAh, the color temperature is 3200K, the rated power is 0.5W, USB charging connector. Bracket part is the ABS mold production with gold-plated decoration, the base is also ABS mold production, and joined the metal plate to gain weight. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product dimensions: width 180 mm x depth 353 mm x Height 393 mm. TAGS: lamp, decoration, homeware, furniture, DIFFER, Gudao Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After searching the whole mass consumer market in China, it is hardly to find some housewares and furniture made for spiritual needs, either is lack of individualization or interesting. On the other hand, lots of traditional goods are only can be found on the books or museums which are full of interest and intelligence. Therefor they decide to design housewares and furniture referenced in oriental culture. So to design Happiness they spend much time on researching traditional culture not only lighting devices. CHALLENGE: The challenge is cultural communication used in functional products, they need to ensure the satisfaction of the modern function and the reduction of Chinese-style scenes. They draw the styling elements of plum blossom stem from the traditional Chinese painting, make the tray with mountain shape and the main color of ink black, restore the vigor and artistic conception of the Chinese plum blossom and enhance the sense of decoration. Making the bulb smooth and clean to increase interaction and affinity, also better for lighting. Bulbs and bracket base use rounded design elements, the circular buds as a decorative part also learned from landscape painting by a gold-plated treatment.
