DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Nanna

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lighting

INSPIRATION:
Name of the product is inspired by the name of the moon god in Sumerian Mythology. The design concept evolved by the idea of having very easy to use light cells for indoor use, during a power failure or any kind of a sudden need.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Nanna is a mobile and modular lighting element designed for indoor use; specially for the situations where sudden power failures happen and where (relatively)short-time individual lighting is needed. It consists of modular units that can work together or separately depending on the need for light. Conductive magnets will be used at the joining details which allows the units to be held together with each other or on the metal surfaces. When they are used individually, more than one person can meet the need for illumination at the same time at different locations.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The units can be charged by using the USB output or AC adaptor while they are located on the charging base. When units leave the base, automatically switch to "on" mood and do not turn "off" until they are seated on the base again. The main purpose of this approach is to keep the units in charge and to keep their connections to the field of use. The units can be used together or individually, can be attached to metal surfaces or each others by the magnets at the connection parts.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
I have spent several months on this project in Cappadocia during the late winter and spring of 2017.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
It is foreseen that ABS plastic material will be used in the main body and base of the product and it is produced by plastic injection molding technology. The use of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) panels has been chosen due to its flexibility in product formability and its ability to provide homogeneous illumination in the surface area. Industrial conductive magnets will be used at the joining details.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
recharging base:107x107x9mm moduler unit:r25mm, h18mm The device can be charged by usb or AC adaptor. Using NiMH batteries as power supply.

TAGS:
lighting, modularity, emergencies, lightcells

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
I have made research on the entegration of OLED panels on lighting products, the usage and the conditions of conductivity of industrial magnets.

CHALLENGE:
Defining the usage field of modular lighting units(indoors, outdoors, emergency situations etc.) and the entegration of OLED panels with the form of the product was biggest challenge for me during the concept development and design process.
