| DESIGN NAME: Metatron PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: I am in love and inspired by the legendary furniture designers such as Paul Evans, Hans J. Wegner, Jean Prouve, Paul Kjaerholm, Alvar Aalto. I decided to design an armchair which would feel timeless as they have done, which would make someone feel as if Metatron Armchair has been there for a long time, make people feel like they are living a type of heritage, part of something bigger than themselves. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Metatron Armchair is a design that makes you wonder when it was designed. Makes you think that it might have been made between 1900's - 1960's. It is a blend of history and present. At first It has a muscular feel to it but when you pay close attention to it you see the elegance defined by its forms. It is a mix of natural wood, iron and custom upholstery. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials used are natural wood oak, iron and sheet steel. Bending and welding of iron is used with custom upholstery and hand made craftsmanship for wood. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 650 mm Depth 700 mm Height 750 mm TAGS: metatron, armchair, comfort, ergonomics, seating, design, livingroom, elegance, timeless RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was about giving the exact form for the natural wood and the pipes made of iron and fixing them. Selection and testing of the strength of the iron pipes was very important because they carry the load. CHALLENGE: The challange was bending the iron into our specific design without causing bumps, finding out the strength of the iron pipes and which size carries optimum weight without sacrficing from the design. NAME: Kamil Taner Architecture and Interiors PROFILE: Kamil did not start his career in Architecture and Interiors. He was a successful entrepreneur at the begining of the internet era. Later he manufactured energy efficient lighting fixtures for industrial plants and became a lighting designer in the process. From his early age he always loved buildings, structures, spaces, interiors, lighting and furniture but never knew why? His journey to Architecture and Interiors started with his friend asking him to design his office because he believed he had good taste. While building the office Kamil got fascinated by the endless possibilities of design and decided to learn more. He started to work in Halit Dağcıoğlu Architecture Company and got his interior design degree simultaneously. One thing led to another and he found himself designing buildings, restaurants, houses, furniture, lighting and offices for his clients. Kamil says Architecture and Interiors found him and he followed the path that was laid before him. He doesn’t like being called an architect or an interior designer, he defines himself as a designer because of his own approach to design. He believes a space should be unique, structure, interior and the furniture should be designed specifically for that project. He designs every little detail from walls, floors, doors, lighting all the way to the furniture himself creating an athmosphere that is a reflection of his client. You can see him with his sketchbook constantly designing because he just loves it. |
