| DESIGN NAME: Wulumuqi lu Private Restaurant PRIMARY FUNCTION: Private Restaurant INSPIRATION: It is a 2-story superior aged villa of brick structure, with 300 square meter open space in the front. Taking historic significance and context into account, we retain the original structure of it and revitalize it with unique design methods. Also, we make the open space into the courtyard. As the owner collects plenty of antiques, we propose that make room for antique display inside. Since the interior space is small, the "integration of the interior and the courtyard" becomes the key. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is an old building renovation project made to be a high-class restaurant in Shanghai,China,with only 4 single rooms and 1 foyer. We place antiques inside to match outside traditional courtyard,connecting interior and exterior in vision and creating the vast spiritual world inside. Next to the courtyard,we set an area just like traditional Japanese architecture"en OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We place antiques inside to match outside traditional courtyard,connecting interior and exterior in vision and creating the vast spiritual world inside. When people eating inside,they can enjoy the view of the courtyard,remove the distractions and be relaxed. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2017 in Shanghai. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Remove surplus decorations by modern design methods.For example,inner ceiling is specially set tilted to be integrated with outer eave decoration,achieving continuity of interior and exterior in vision. We only use five materials:pebble washout,manchurian ash, marble,iron and glass. Among them,pebble washout does not require wall foundation or baseboard.It can directly lay over concrete.It is durable and can be material for inner and outer wall .Unlike marble, it does not have any seams. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 500m² (including courtyard area 300m²) TAGS: renovation, interior and exterior integration, spiritual space, traditional and modern. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The coherence of indoor Chinese antiques and outdoor traditional Chinese courtyard: the interior space is small, thus the "integration of the interior and the courtyard" becomes the key.
