| DESIGN NAME: GUARDIAN PRIMARY FUNCTION: Study Desk INSPIRATION: When studying in a library, a student or researcher may need to leave their desk at times to search for a book, use the bathroom, go to a cafe, or phone somebody. However, leaving his or her personal belongings at the table even for a short period puts them at risk of theft. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Guardian is a study desk for libraries with a rotating and lockable screen cum cover. It allows one to secure their belongings when they momentarily step outside the library. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Guardian is a library study table that also functions as a public locker. It has a rotatable barrel screen that serves two purposes. In its vertical orientation, it gives the reader a private space and divides each table from its neighbor. When swung down into its horizontal orientation, the screen covers the whole tabletop and secures his or her belongings beneath it. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2012 and finished in August 2012 in Taiwan, and was Red Dot Design Concept winner 2012 and was exhibited in 2013 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart in September 2013. Product Objectives: Suitable for open office desks or conference tables, work tables, etc., especially for library and study area of book center.
