DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
EnGo

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Smart Street Light

INSPIRATION:
Everyday need to power a mobile device, fast pace of life and lack of time for enjoyment or face-to-face socialization inspired us to create a new lighting solution. The goal for the Street Light was to create unique and contemporary visual environments that fulfill these needs. Inspiration was found in calm natural shapes and different effects of natural light. The solution for powering the product was found in maximally utilizing sunlight and the abundance of movement in urban areas.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
EnGo is an interactive of-the-grid lighting solution and a social hub that provides power and Wi-Fi for mobile devices. The lighting is controlled over an App. Main LED reflector is powered either from solar cells or a pad system that harvests kinetic energy from the footsteps of passersby. Changeable LED ambient light can be used to set different moods. A large surface bellow the panel also presents a unique advertisement opportunity, so the product can generate income.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
EnGo can be installed in any orientation, maximally utilizing sunlight. Battery packs inside the bench or underground also charge devices via Wi-Fi using Charge Spot. Interaction with EnGo is done using one App for a city service, while passersby can set ambient lighting with a different App. Sensors track atmospheric and traffic conditions, this data is sent to city planners. Linked units light the way when needed, and save energy when not. Advertisement NFC stickers can be used on Charge Spot.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This continually revised project, which started in 2015, is a cooperation of a start-up company from New York, USA and a team from Belgrade, Serbia.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Steel, aluminum, solid wood (different types, depending on the color of the unit).

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Height options: 4m, 6m or 8m (for the reflector). Bench (Additional battery box): 1000 x 300 x 450mm. Charge Spot: 280 x 230 x 110mm. Hardware: 230W solar panel, 25-75W LED luminaire, high speed Wi-Fi charging pad. Sensors: Motion sensors, Light on demand, Air quality (NO2,CO), Temperature & humidity, Water detection etc.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
During initial research, We found that current solar LED street light solutions are either too expensive or do not have an appealing design language. Another issue We discovered was that solar panels are not fully utilized, either because the majority of solutions do not allow independent orientation of both the solar panel and the LED reflector, or because the solar panel cannot be set under an optimal angle (e.g. 30 degrees and pointing to south for Northern hemisphere).

CHALLENGE:
It was our intention to create a modular and adjustable unit which could be produced at a low price in almost any workshop, can be easily transported and installed on site. The challenge was to provide aesthetic design with various functional options that could be added or removed depending on a particular need of the client, designated location or planned usage.
