| DESIGN NAME: Axis and Lines PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: The owners, a landscape designer, cares two little boys and concern much about the programs and the material used in the project. Therefore, many natural and industrial material are adopted to achieve their anticipation. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There is an unavoidable long circulation in this narrow apartment, but we connect spaces and family activities with the concept of axis and lines. An axial corridor of dark wood flooring links all spaces while dividing up the service and the served. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: <1>The screen at the entrance is used as a split to separate the entry space and the living room. And it is a strategy in which the core concept is developed. <2>The use of two tone of wood on the walkway highlights the linear characteristic, and on top of that it clearly defines servant and served spaces. <3>In the master room, the structure line of the floor and the design of the island cabinet locating against the bedhead distinct the use of rest and dressing area. In addition, the ceiling-hanging knotted ropes cohesively echoes the idea of axis and lines. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: <1>At the entrance, the screen is constructed out of iron frame and hanging knotted hemp ropes. For the space of the living room, the ceiling comprises OSB panels orderly combining with the corrugated steel TV wall. <2>The implementation of two tones of the flooring (walnut and oak) strengthens the spatial characteristic of linear corridor. <3>The material of the master room is layered by rough stone, walnut wood, and oak wood. Also, it is oriented with iron items, stainless steel material, and hemp rope ornament. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total area of the property is 92 square meters. TAGS: OSB boards, light-adjustable window panels, stripes, hemp ropes RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project adopts the concept of Axis and Lines in order to reinforce its longitudinal space. Regarding the operation of the concept of Lines, it interconnects between home life and spatial details. It starts from the screen at the entrance and extends along the structure lines of the walkway to the structure lines of the visual wall in the master room where it locates in the end of the walkway. CHALLENGE: In this project, there is an inevitable long linear circulation in this slender-shaped apartment. That being said, with the concept of Axis and Lines, spaces are designed to interact with the family's activities. Dark wood flooring links up all spaces as well as divides servant and served spaces.
