| DESIGN NAME: Triple O PRIMARY FUNCTION: Watch INSPIRATION: The name, TRIPLE-O, inspired from three planet gears in the planetary gear system. Our group has been focusing on the innovation of mechanical system and reading of watches, and that is exactly what TRIPLE-O wants to convey. We put great effort on research of beauty of mechanism and try to transform it into our watch design. The use of Lelord triangle shape is the heart of both planetary gear system in movement innovation and applied to all the elements of modeling. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: TRIPLE-O is a multi-disciplinary design in cooperation with Watch Company in China. The main innovation of TRIPLE-O is movement, time readings, crown mechanism and modeling design. The planetary gear system of three planet gears in movement innovation makes time readings distinctive. The separation of hour and minutes makes recognition and reading much easier. The crown mechanism is based on the ball pen alike structure to achieve the convenience of operation. Meanwhile, the modeling design is inspired by Lelord triangle. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The rotation of hour wheel and minute wheel increases the interaction while reading. By pressing the button of crown, the whole triangle crown will pop out to operate, afterward press the triangle crown back. The brand new hand is able to indicate the hour and minute at the same time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project has been launched for one years, started in June, 2016. Design finished in April, 2017 and production in June, 2017, in Tianjin, China. The exhibition of TRIPLE-O locates in the library of Tianjin University, begun on 27th, May, 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main innovation of TRIPLE-O is also what the most difficult part. After repeated testing and iteration before a final selection of 3 planetary gear rain. The prototype has manufactured successfully in May, 2017. However because the watch is a very delicate device, to realize this structure for the future mass production remain some difficult. The material of watch case is stainless steel, with brushed surface treatment, and the glass is sapphire crystal, the watchstrap is cow leather. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The length of the watch is 47.2mm, and the width is 33.4mm, with the height of 24.2mm TAGS: Watch, Sport, Mechanical, Time, Planetary gear train RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A huge number of research and investigation done on TRIPLE-O project, in order to achieve an innovative time-reading and transverse watch structure is adopted finally. As for the movement design, modeling and mathematical analysis in collaboration with Watch Company and Manufacture Factories to meet the high requirements. CHALLENGE: Mass production still need time due to the high quality requirements and docking with Manufacture Factories also requires more time and communication.
