Pendant lamps

INSPIRATION:
Misty morning just before the sun is breaking.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
DEE is two pendants sharing the same metal top, dimensioning and form-factor. The objective has been to create one design-signature and at the same time be able to obtain 360 degree illumination and be able to have more direct light in specific places, such as over the dining table, kitchen table or any other table.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The objective has been to create one design-signature and at the same time be able to obtain 360 degree illumination and be able to have more direct light in specific places, such as over the dining table, kitchen table or other tables. The DEE glass version is designed to be the more modern version of the two with the acided part of the glass only being in the bottom part, to obtain a kind of flow-feeling, when the pendant is hung in a room. We designed it to be bold yet classic, and almost expressing mist caught in the bottom of a glass bowl. The DEE Metal is designed to be the more contemporary version of the two. A classic metal shade is distributing the light down and an opalized diffuser is making sure the light is soft and comfortable. The DEE metal version to have a certain but of course attitude to it.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Designed in Denmark 2014-2015 It was exhibited in Light & Building, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Euroluce Milan and more.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Lighting Products and Fixtures Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Traditional metal pressing, traditional blown glass which is partly sanded to obtain the misty effect. Opalized acrylic mounted in the metal shade without the use of screws or brackets.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Ø350mm H: 390 / 295mm The glass version may be hung high or low, whilst the metal version is best suited hanging low.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research has first and foremost been in regards to light transmission through sanded glass and the opalized cover. It has been our objective to find the exact right amount of sanding to obtain this "when the sun is breaking through mist" effect for the glass version, and the "warm sun" effect for the opalized cover (for the metal version). These two effects has been important for us, since we would like to "tell that story"in the products, without telling it in words. We are of course aware that no one will get this story, but we stay convinced that the two pendants in that way supports each other in the same setting.

CHALLENGE:
Challenge has been to create the recognizable form factor for both Dee versions to be able to use both versions in the same scenery, but with two different illuminations. The other main challenge was to design both lamps so there would be no visible screws or brackets.

NAME:
Design For The People by Nordlux

PROFILE:
Design For The People by Nordlux - FROM IDEA TO ENTHUSIASM. Creating something is not art - creating enthusiasm is. This is our credo at Nordlux and with this in mind we create innovative design products that are both exciting and advanced. We cannot help it, because we love the process of advancing from an idea to enthusiasm. Fortunately, we are surrounded by people who prefer to go all the way rather than compromise. People who are not afraid to use some elbow grease as well as some mental grease, and for whom innovation is nothing new. Because at Nordlux every success story starts with innovation. Only in this way we can make sure that our products are in line with the global impulses - and maybe even one step ahead of them. Design For The People is for all who appreciate classic as well as innovative lighting design. We are guided by our vision to create design products at a price that everyone can afford. Design with a Nordic twist, intended for people worldwide. Therefore, we invest in the form and functionality of each and every design we produce, just as we think about people and the environment in connection with each and every solution. Behind every Design For The People design there are a number of recognised Danish designers who endeavour to create lighting that embellish and seduce, where beauty and functionality go hand in hand.
