| DESIGN NAME: JuzoPro Lumbal PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lumbal Orthosis INSPIRATION: The task was to set up a new design language for the orthopaedic area. At the beginning of our development process we did a comprehensive research and analysis of the market. We held many meetings with Juzo for a better understanding of their motivation and the expectation of their clients. Based on this information we have been able to get a full understanding of Juzos core competencies to design their highly functional products. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The orthoses of the JuzoPro Lumbal series have a stabilising and pain-relieving effect in patients with issues in the lumbar spine. Furthermore, a sacral pad provides additional relief at the transition from the sacrum to the lumbar spine. The pad features frictional nubs to loosen the hardened muscle tissue. They increase blood flow and provide a massaging effect. The particularly elastic and breathable knitted fabric and the specifically developed fastening mechanism ensure an optimal fit. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The orthoses fit tightly to the body and are hardly visible, thus making them highly suitable for every-day use. The different sizes and forms, straight or contoured, of these orthosis suit to a wide range of body shapes and waist types. They have also a tailored positioning or removal of the sacrum pad. The user can easily and simple fasten the orthosis using the finger pockets. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The special Xtra fabric with its various functional zones is produced using a unique 3D knitting technology. This specially developed technology enables us to combine best-possible moisture regulation and breathability with maximum freedom of movement and support for the joints and muscles. The Xtra fabric is constructed in such a way that the functional characteristics of the various yarns employed complement one another optimally and, on account of their different locations in the fabric, enable them to fulfil different tasks. The 3D knitting technology also ensures the optimal fit of the Juzo Xtra products, thereby avoiding pressure points or skin irritation. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Lumbal Orthoses are available in 6 different sizes and two different shapes. From XS to XXL. Width from 75cm to 143cm /Height 30cm to 40cm / Depth 8mm - 12mm TAGS: lumbal, orthosis, knitted fabric, compression, welding, orthopaedic, fit, body, tightly RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For the research we started an analysis of the important competitors with a complete overview of their design language, product range and their corporate identities. The objectives were the clear differentiation and the underlining of the juzo core competencies. The understanding of the strong medical background and the best functionality on the market leads us to a very functional design for the lumbal orthoses. CHALLENGE: To find a design for 6 different sizes combined with 2 different shapes made this project very challenging. To design a pattern for knitted fabric is not the same as printing nice graphics on textile. This knitted fabric combines two important functions. Compression of the body and transport of moisture from the inside to the outside of the orthosis. Each color of the fabric has its own function, so you had to carefully design with these colors.
